horse ulcer symptoms – Do you use Quest wormer?

I lately have new boarding mare. It is obvious she has bot worms, she has the classic signs and symptoms of stinky manure, mouth lesions/mouth ulcers, distended abdomen, dull coat and her mane/tail is fragile and breaks quite effortlessly. I often powerdose any new horse on the house because I take each precaution I can to keep my horses in best shape and condition. I spoke with the SafeGuard rep although I was in the vet provide shop the other day and he reminded me that the product doesn’t deal with bot fly worms. He recommended that I use Quest. His recommendation was to purge worm, to give a complete dose every 15 days. I came property to purchase a box of the wormer, so that I would preserve funds on the bulk volume and to have a few added. I identified some surprising info about the product and I remembered the controversy in excess of it killing some horses. Baffled, I known as Fort Dodge, who manufactures Quest and asked to converse with a single of their researchers…
An individual really referred to as me back! She was really beneficial, informative, educated and Good! In NO way really should you use the Quest as described by the SafeGuard rep. This is precisely the kind of details that has killed several horses, which has offered the wormer such a negative reputation. They have been a lot more than probably overdosing and poisoning their horses. You reworm with other varieties of wormer readily available like the ivermectin blends as advised by a couple of people under, but not Quest. I hope that everybody that reads this learns what I did or knew it all along.

My question:
Has any individual had wonderful success with Quest? What parasite were you treating for, if anything at all in certain?
Jeff,
The SafeGuard recommended cutting the wait time down to only 15 days amongst worming, for three cycles with the Quest. I dont assume it is the very same as doubling the dase as it would be just plain overdosing period. Quest is a time released product. It stays in the intestinal muscle tissue for a total of 84 days. You can do it as early as six weeks, but practically nothing sooner simply because of the way it is supposed to work.

Did I reply your question?
I just want to add that I operate Extremely closely with my vet. He never has steered me incorrect in anything. I call and he is here in ten minutes. I do not tube worm, it is just a private choice that I have made and 1 that my vet supports. This was just a predicament that occurred above the course of a couple of days. I constantly make educated selections, by educating myself in methods that I can and finally taking my delima and resolution to my vet if there is any question in my selection. I made the selection without having needing to phone him, I am not powerdosing and I am not employing the Quest routine as suggested by the SafeGuard rep. I was only wanting the common opinion of all right here on the solution and any positive aspects or successes they have had with the Quest merchandise.

horse ulcer symptoms – Opinions on this ”diagnosis”?

i sold an ottb a while back. For about 500 . The woman was smitten with him, and she would be a very first time proprietor despite the fact that she had leased ahead of. The gelding was 6 many years old . Beautiful temperament, quite well behaved, quiet and gentle.
The mother was concerned about how secure the horse was so i mentioned that if she cannot handle him i will take him back and refund her. So they bought him.

Two weeks later i got a contact saying that the horse had died. The girl was heartbroken. The mom was pissed, the friends were producing slanderous remarks about me on facebook (saying i knowingly sold them a sick horse, im a con ect ect)

the way they explained it was that he had an ulcer that burst and they had to place him down as it was the humane point to do. It was extremely sad. He really was a sweetie. I referred to as the woman and she mentioned , and i quote ”and you know his tummy was a bit off for a handful of days…” so the vet was not called initially when he showed discomfort im assuming…

I gave them the funds to pay out for the vet bills. I didnt talk to the vet. But they had been crying on the mobile phone so i felt sorry…
Just what are the possibilities that he would just die in a week from an ulcer? He was perfectly fine when he was with me. I have bloodwork from just prior to he left and outcomes have been regular. I know numerous ottb have ulcers and its extremely attainable that he had… But to just DIE so swiftly after being in very good overall health?

Personally i believe he died of and impaction that burst due to mistreated/unobserved colic signs.
@lord donald farnsworth:I did inquire our vet. He said it sounds like a misinterpreted diagnosis to him. I just asked right here for opinions since i can get a broad range of them on this website without bringing the topic up amongst people who know the horse, know the men and women ect.
@Gallop: thats scary. How usually does that come about?
